EMDR therapy for Recent Traumatic Episodes (R-TEP)

What is the EMDR R-TEP therapy?

It is a comprehensive current trauma focused protocol for an early intervention.

R-TEP stands for Recent Traumatic Event Protocol, that was developed by Elan Shapiro and Brurit Laub in 2008 for people who have experienced recent traumatic events (car accidents, terrorists’ attacks, fires, etc.) and who may continue or not to live traumatic experiences after the initial event.

This protocol is indicated when the traumatic event has occurred between two days to six months. It usually requires about 2 to 4 sessions, which can optionally be conducted over several consecutive days.

This protocol includes an initial phase of evaluation of the client’s readiness before starting treatment, which pays special attention to how safe s/he feels in the present, how rooted s/he is, and learning self-soothing and stabilization exercises.

An EMDR session lasts 60 minutes.
